The Newest Amharic Pop Star Around…… Making her debut on my blog

Well maybe not really a pop star, but she is awesom in my book none the less.

Ever since we began this adoption journey from Ethiopia I have had this desire to see some of the more popular western worship tunes translated into Amharic, specifically I really want to see the “Did you feel the Mountains Tremble” song by Delirious? translated into Amharic. The song speaks to me so deeply about the plight of the social justice issue in Ethiopia:

Did you feel the mountains tremble?
Did you hear the oceans roar?
When the people rose to sing of
Jesus Christ the risen one

Did you feel the people tremble?
Did you hear the singers roar?
When the lost began to sing of
Jesus Christ the risen one

And we can see that God you’re moving
A mighty river through the nations
And young and old will turn to Jesus
Fling wide your heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen Lord

Open up the doors and let the music play
Let the streets resound with singing
Songs that bring your hope
Songs that bring your peace
Dancers who dance upon injustice

Did you feel the darkness tremble?
When all the saints join in one song
And all the streams flow as one river
To wash away our brokeness

And here we see that God you’re moving
A time of Jubilee is coming
When young and old return to Jesus
Fling wide your heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen Lord

Some one want to take that one on?  Yeah, my wonderful wife isn’t ready to tackle that one either.

So with all of that said I invite you to check out the work Heather did do in the Delirious? rendition of “Our God Reigns

If you’ve never seen the original song you can check out the full song over here Heather hasn’t done the lyrics yet, as that much symbology and metaphor is going to require a native speaker to do it right.

So do you think that Vineyard Music is ready for an Amharic worship set? An yes, Heather has translated “Isn’t He” by John Wimber already so we have already done the rightious thing for our Ethiopian brothers. (and all the Vineyard people chuckle and everyone else scratches their heads)

Pop over to my wifes blog and shoot her some encouragement, yeah I can use it too, this adoption is quite a burden to carry for this long and to hit this many obstacles. But Heather could really use the love, the translating of songs has become a bit of busy work to not think about everything that has gone wrong lately, but I would love to see her continue with it so pump her up for me!!!! I think she is great, but she doesn’t listen to me LOL

  1. Thanks for sharing; I love it that your wife is learning Amharic and sharing it with us.

    Still praying in Wisconsin.

  2. Mike obliged, his ambience clubbing a wet, venting ‘pop’ distance when it emerged from his Aunt’s bypassing anus. Great, but that’ll ponder a nicht days, won’t it?

  3. oh yeah, one more thing I want everyone to know about my respect ms Do you want a joke? 🙂 Why did Robin Hood rob only the rich? Because the poor had no money.
